This Czech-language reading textbook for fifth-grade pupils is part of the Reading with Comprehension series and extends a range of textbooks designed to support reading literacy. It follows the aims and approach of the Czech Framework Educational Programme for Basic Education. Its main goal is to deepen children’s interest in literature and motivate them to read through engaging articles and entertaining tasks. Each literary extract is accompanied by questions and activities that develop reading literacy. The texts cover all literary genres appropriate to the age group and correspond with topics taught in science and social studies, which are also the focus of most cross-curricular questions. The book includes questions and tasks supporting pupils’ ethical education, explanations of several basic literary-theory terms, and brief encyclopedic explanations of less familiar words and concepts marked with an owl symbol. Riddles, entertaining tests and games add variety.
