Descripción
This Czech travel book takes readers through Podzvičinsko and the foothills of the Krkonoše Mountains, a region of remarkable natural beauty and valuable cultural heritage. Author Jan Řehounek follows the Javorka stream from its source in the hills dominated by Mount Zvičina, down through wooded slopes, rocky ravines and stream valleys to the welcoming basin around Lázně Bělohrad, with its groves, orchards and ponds. The journey continues through the enclosed Mezihořské Valley into the gently rolling Podchlumí region, where the Javorka eventually joins the Cidlina. Along the way, he visits towns with eventful histories and ancient monuments, including Stará Paka, Nová Paka, Miletín, Hořice, Lázně Bělohrad, Ostroměř and Smidary, as well as Pecka and Kumburk castles. In Hřídelec, he even enters the interior of a volcano. He admires folk architecture, windmills and ancient trees, explores local legends and Podkrkonoše dialect folklore, samples kyselo and Miletínské modlitbičky, and meets the region’s wonderful, hospitable people. The contents are in Czech.
