This Czech-language historical nonfiction book uses specific examples from the local history of the northern Plzeň region, particularly the Kralovicko area, to illustrate the fateful events of the Second World War in the Czech lands. The region experienced all the major developments of the war: important borders ran through it, part of the area became part of the Sudetenland, while the rest remained in the Second Republic and later the Protectorate. At the end of the war, a demarcation line divided the region between the American and Soviet zones. Local wartime events are set in the context of military history and accompanied by extensive visual documentation that offers an encyclopedic guide to the military equipment of the period. Previously unpublished historical photographs and authentic archival documents provide valuable material, including a frequently overlooked view of the complicated administrative changes in the immediate postwar period. The third edition adds new photographic sections and indexes of civilian and military war victims.
