Descripción
This Czech-language poetry book presents the work of František Halas (1901–1949), a poet, editor and translator regarded as one of the most important Czech creators of the twentieth century. Arne Novák describes him as a poet gifted with powerful, chiefly visual imagination, combining an enchanted yet disenchanted view of the world with profound reflection and constant emotional pathos. The included poem speaks of love in a sequence of contradictory feelings: moved, the speaker draws close; saddened, retreats; surprised, falls silent; ready, suffers for tenderness; defeated, finds refuge at the gates of faithful night; and abandoned, continues growing towards himself.
