Buried bones conceal a chilling secret. People begin disappearing in Ostrava, and clues vanish as quickly as detective Adam Richtr’s hope. The investigation runs into invisible barriers and betrayals from within his own ranks, but Adam refuses to give up and investigates on his own in the city’s dark underbelly: dingy bars, underground tunnels and closed sectarian communities. A breakthrough comes with archaeologist Eleonora Kočí, who sees in the case the signature of her father, a powerful manipulator whose shadow has haunted her all her life. Their investigation leads them to a forgotten mass grave from the Second World War, lying beneath Milada Horáková Orchard. The deeper the two unlikely allies delve into the mystery of the buried bones, the more they come to the attention of the followers of Eleonora’s father’s sect. In the end, they are fighting not only for justice but also to avoid becoming more nameless victims in a pit covered with lime. This gripping crime thriller by Martin Müller evokes the terrifying echoes of the forgotten Hanke concentration camp.
