Descripción
Two Czech veterans, one wartime secret and gold bought with blood. In 1995, in the border region of Bosnia and the Republic of Serbian Krajina, four Czech soldiers on a routine patrol encounter a Bosnian paramilitary group massacring civilians. Defying orders, they intervene and eliminate the attackers. At the scene, they find a suitcase full of looted gold. Shaken by what they have witnessed and surprised by their own actions, they hide the treasure at the bottom of a reservoir and swear never to speak of the incident. Soon afterwards, a Croatian offensive engulfs the area, and their secret disappears beneath the layers of war. In 2024, in Hradec Králové, one of the former soldiers, now heavily in debt and with his life falling apart, decides to return for the sunken treasure. He persuades another member of the unit to join him, and together they set out for places they were never meant to revisit. Their wartime act has not been forgotten, however, and people in Bosnia still seek revenge. The return of the former Czech soldiers sets off a chain of events in which the past collides with the present and every step may be their last. This Czech-language thriller takes readers among the soldiers of the Czech contingent in the UNPROFOR mission during the civil war in the former Yugoslavia and, above all, into contemporary Bosnia, a still unsettled part of the Balkans.
