World Reading for Schoolchildren is a series of richly illustrated, sensitively retold, and abridged works of world literature. The novel Oliver Twist was published in installments in weekly issues. In it, he depicted the cruelty of the harsh life of the poor and the exploitation of children. The novel was a great success. Charles Dickens is considered one of the most successful prose writers of the 19th century.
