Dr Milan Hausner treated mentally ill patients with psychotherapy using LSD while he was head physician at the psychiatric clinic in Sadská near Prague. He was probably the only psychiatrist in the world to use hallucinogenic substances in clinical medicine on such a scale and for such a long period. At his 112-bed clinic, he used various doses of LSD, from 50 to 400 micrograms, as part of 60 to 90 sessions combined with psychotherapy. These sessions usually took place on an outpatient basis over weekends, while the treatment itself lasted six to twelve months. Patients with various neuroses, phobias and some psychoses responded particularly positively to psychoanalysis. The book provides a detailed description of various disorders, their causes and the treatment procedure used by Dr Hausner. It also includes case studies and statements from individual patients.
