Descripción
This book examines the profound confusion created by the rapid changes in Western thought during the modern era. Familiar ideas about space, time and movement, nature and natural laws, history and social change, and human personality itself have dissolved, leaving people in a boundless universe increasingly reminiscent of the Buddhist principle of the “great void.” Western religious, philosophical and scientific traditions offer few guides for living in such a universe, while the loss of absolutes and fixed principles can make the search for a personal path through this ocean of relativity frightening. The book explores the enduring Zen interest in a culturally productive way of life that does not fear emptiness but regards it as positive and even pleasurable, expressed in the Zen image of having neither a roof overhead nor a patch of ground beneath one’s feet. The contents are in Czech.
