This colorful Czech-language workbook for pupils in the third and fourth grades develops reading skills systematically through comparing texts and working with them. The first volume follows the exercise types used in the workbooks I Am a Reader 1 and I Am a Reader 2. It contains four well-known legends, including the story of Libuše, as well as a review chapter. The legends are retold in contemporary language and shortened to present only the core of each story. Pupils become familiar with the oldest Czech legends in an accessible way, while contrasts with similar stories from the present day help children understand them even better.
