Descripción
This Czech-language historical novel is the concluding volume of Bernard Cornwell’s Saxon Stories series. Alongside the culmination of the effort to unite all the Saxon kingdoms, it portrays the reconciliation of the main character with his son, a Christian bishop. After years of fighting, Uhtred of Bebbanburg lives in his impregnable fortress and longs only to spend his final days in the true home for which he has fought all his life. Fate, however, has other plans. Britain is steadily moving towards a decisive clash between three major powers: the Saxons led by King Athelstan, the Scots under King Constantine, and the Norsemen settled in northern Northumbria and especially Ireland, gathered by the ambitious leader Anlaf. Uhtred’s Northumbria becomes the focal point of the conflict, which culminates in the decisive Battle of Brunanburh. Cornwell brings the series to a magnificent close with this grand finale to the imposing story of the birth of England.
