Its original language is French, from which it is translated into other language versions, taking into account the original languages of the Scriptures. The Jerusalem Bible summarizes the results of many decades of scholarly research by the Jerusalem Biblical School in the fields of history, archaeology, geography, anthropology, philology, religious studies, and other disciplines. In form and content, it strives to bring readers closer to the original biblical texts: the principle is not to subtract or add to the literary qualities of the original.
