Descripción
This Czech-language collection contains almost fifty glosses, reflections, micro-essays and brief memoir sketches written in recent years for various social and literary occasions, as well as from the joy of reading and sharing. In these personal and distinctive reflections, Josef Kroutvor considers the meaning of literature, the place of ethics and humour in art, and the ability to tell a story. Using the metaphor of writing with a pencil stub, he draws on various forgotten or little-known chapters from the history of twentieth-century Czech literature, represented by authors including Jaroslav Hašek, Franz Kafka, Karel Čapek, Bohumil Hrabal, Karel Poláček, Josef Škvorecký, Ota Pavel and Václav Havel.
