Descripción
This Czech-language book presents trauma-sensitive yoga as a scientifically supported intervention for clients affected by complex interpersonal trauma, such as chronic childhood abuse or domestic violence. Verbal therapy does not always have the desired effect in these cases, because reducing a client’s experience to symptoms or changing cognitive and behavioural patterns can overlook the body, where much of the suffering associated with trauma is experienced and manifested through self-hatred, shame and fear. Redirecting attention towards the body and developing a bodily sense can help unlock pain and support the path to healing. The book explains Trauma-Sensitive Yoga, a programme that helps traumatised clients reconnect with their bodies safely and mindfully. The simple techniques are presented clearly and concisely, so they can be understood and used even by clinical psychologists without previous knowledge of yoga. More than 30 photographs show different forms of yoga, and the final chapter contains a step-by-step portfolio of yoga practices for use with clients.
