This Czech-language monograph by Pavel Kolář and his colleagues is a comprehensive overview of rehabilitation and belongs among the field's fundamental textbooks. It is divided into general and special sections. The general section describes the different areas of rehabilitation, whose main goal is the social integration of the individual, including medical, social, educational and occupational rehabilitation. It also covers diagnostic and therapeutic procedures aimed at functional, particularly motor, deficits. Diagnostic topics include detailed clinical examination of the musculoskeletal system, testing and assessment of motor impairment, limitations in activities of daily living, psychological examination in painful conditions and functional laboratory examinations, including functional procedures in imaging methods. The therapeutic section addresses medical rehabilitation for disorders of the locomotor system and other organ systems, as well as physiotherapy, physical therapy, balneotherapy and occupational therapy. The special section deals with rehabilitation in individual clinical fields, where it plays an important role in treatment and prevention, with chapters on neurology, orthopaedics, internal medicine, gynaecology, oncology, psychiatry, pain and psychosomatic disorders. Particular attention is given to human motor development and its use in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for the musculoskeletal system.
