Descripción

This Czech-language collection presents excerpts from Albert Camus’s works in various genres, including newspaper articles, passages from fiction and essays, personal letters and prefaces to anthologies. The selected texts were written between 1943 and 1958 and reveal both the diversity of Camus’s work and the deep unity of his questions and convictions. Although the circumstances surrounding terrorism have changed considerably since then, the texts remain relevant to contemporary events in Algeria, the Middle East and the attacks of 11 September 2001. They reflect Camus’s insight, grounded in moral, philosophical and political considerations closely connected with historical events. Camus firmly rejects any justification of killing and disagrees that the ends justify the means, arguing that violence is both inevitable and unjustifiable, and that certain limits are necessary to preserve justice, freedom, human dignity and happiness. The collection offers a message without illusions, while also providing reasons not to despair of the world. Contents are in Czech.
