Descripción

This biographical novel follows Hanuš Wihan, a cellist who transforms silence into a voice and an ordinary note into a truth about humanity. His journey begins in Police nad Metují and leads through the orchestras of European cities and the Prague Conservatory to the founding of the České kvarteto, where music ceases to be a career and becomes the language of the soul. The story captures the emotions of the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries: the joy of music, inner solitude, the unrest of the age and the deep contrast between Europe and the Czech world, full of hidden disputes. In music, however, these conflicts dissolve, or remain unspoken, because true concentration belongs to the note, not to the surrounding noise. Pavel Frydrych, who like Hanuš Wihan comes from Police nad Metují, tells the story of a man who did not need to dance to move the world. The book is in Czech.
