Haiku is a short poem capturing a genuinely experienced moment. Its aim is to lead attentive readers toward discovering the deliberately unspoken parts of the text, allowing them to participate in completing the poem. This opportunity for shared creation is one of the main reasons why the form continues to gain popularity worldwide, not only among admirers of Japanese culture. In this Czech-Slovak dual collection, Katka Soustružníková and Peter Kovalik capture haiku within their native cultural settings by mastering the rules of the form, while allowing the beauty of their native languages to fully emerge. The same approach of transferring knowledge of the form into motifs from familiar surroundings is taken by sumi-e painter Alena Bártová, who created the beautiful illustrations accompanying the texts.
