This Czech-language textbook takes readers through a turbulent century of fundamental changes, conflicts and crucial decisions. It offers a clear and well-organized account of modern history, from the First World War through the rise of totalitarian regimes, the Second World War, the collapse of the colonial system and the Cold War to the challenges of the contemporary world. Emphasis is placed on the connections, causes and consequences of historical events, linking political history with developments in society, everyday life, science, technology, culture and art.
