Descripción
The book Japanese Myths reveals the world of Japanese myths, legends, and stories in a clear and entertaining way, many of which have been told for centuries, but it also presents those that have emerged relatively recently and spread through modern media. The reader will become acquainted with the divine couple Izanami and Izanagi and their first unsuccessful attempts to create Japan, as well as with the whimsical sun goddess Amaterasu, who became the ancestress of the Japanese imperial family. There are also stories about brave samurai who inspire not only contemporary Japanese creators but also Hollywood directors, as well as foxes that appear as ageless beauties who dominate and deceive men. Author Melanie Clegg also takes us among the ghosts and spirits of modern urban legends, introducing us to the Snow Woman, a dog with a human face, the spirit of sweets, and the girl Hanako-san who appears in school toilets, along with many other phantoms we must be wary of even on the bustling streets of contemporary Japanese metropolises.
