This Czech-language novel follows twenty-three-year-old Maddie after the death of her mother. Although their relationship was painful, filled with empty bottles and unspoken words, it leaves Maddie with a silence and guilt that hurt even more. She has no plan, only a notebook full of lyrics and a dream of writing songs that might one day mean something. Just when she does not know what to do next, she receives an offer from her uncle Brian Harley, a famous country star whom she has not seen for three years. His home in Tennessee offers everything she has been missing for so long: safety, music and warmth. But Brian does not live there alone. Her new housemate is Nathaniel, a withdrawn man who makes it clear from the beginning that he has no interest in her friendship. Every chord, every lyric and every glance slowly brings Maddie back to herself and to a life in which she dares, for the first time, to believe that she is worth something and that her mother was wrong. How much must we lose before we can begin again? What can fit inside a single song? And will Maddie fulfil her dream?
