This volume brings together the best of Fráňa Šrámek in four works selected from his early and middle creative periods, capturing the characteristic features of his artistic individuality across a broad range of genres and themes. It includes the poetry collection Modrý a rudý (1906), from the author’s anarchist and anti-militarist period; the important impressionist-influenced novel Stříbrný vítr (1910, 1920); the lyrical drama Léto (1915); and the vitalist poetry collection Splav (1916). They are accompanied by an editor’s commentary by Mojmír Otruba, which details the circumstances surrounding the works’ creation, as well as their extensive, complex and often dramatic reception at the time.
