For five years, Coyote Sunrise and her father, Rodeo, have been travelling across the country in an old yellow school bus, trying to forget their former home. They go wherever they decide, no matter how far away, and their life seems wonderfully untamed. But their real adventure is only about to begin. When Coyote learns that the park in her old neighbourhood, where she once buried a memory box with her sisters and mother, will be demolished in just four days, she uses a false excuse to persuade Rodeo to turn the bus around and set off on a long journey home. The race against time begins. The bus gradually becomes a home for other travellers in need whom the Sunrises offer a ride: Lester is heading to see his girlfriend, Salvador and his mother dream of a new beginning, Val is looking for a place where she can be herself, and then there is Gladys. Can Coyote reach the box in time? Can Rodeo finally come to terms with his painful past? And what part might the strangers fate brings into their path play in all this?
