During the summer holidays, the whole world is outside, with swimming pools, sunshine and friends. Ava and Juri, however, are each shut away at home. Ava is not allowed to go out because she is under house arrest and hiding a secret. Juri can leave, but cannot bring himself to cross the threshold of his room. The two begin writing to each other, at first casually about failed birthday parties, parents and classmates. Their replies come faster and grow increasingly personal, while the spaces between the words open up an entire universe. They share fears and painful confessions, along with truths that are not entirely true. Juri cannot say his fears aloud, and Ava may be inventing some of her stories. Their isolated rooms become a shared space where it is possible, or at least possible to try, to be honest. How close can two people become when they never see each other, and what happens when trust begins to crumble? This contemporary novel for teenagers is told in chat form and explores anxiety, loneliness and the courage to let someone else come closer, even at the risk of disappointment, as well as the fragility of relationships formed between the lines.
