This Czech-language early-reading book combines an ongoing story with short fairy tales. It follows Hugo, whose father is a veterinarian at a zoo. In his free time, Hugo visits the individual animals, who tell him interesting and amusing stories about their lives and those of their animal relatives. All the animal stories are connected with the lives of Hugo and his parents. The tales are short enough for children to read a complete story during a continuing reading session, a lesson or as homework. Their simple style and short sentences are suited to children learning to read. Eva Horáková is an experienced teacher and mother of two who teaches at primary-school level.
