A single click can take a child to websites displaying explicit pornographic scenes. This Czech-language book explains how exposure to pornography shortens childhood, awakens premature interest in sexuality and gives children and teenagers a distorted idea not only of sex but especially of forming and maintaining intimate relationships. Research has shown a clear connection between adolescents beginning sexual activity prematurely and consuming pornographic material, while surveys indicate that child consumers of pornography are more likely to commit sexually violent offences later in life. Children and young people who obtain most of their knowledge about sexuality from pornography also face a greater risk of lacking accurate information about sexually transmitted diseases and contraception when they begin having sex. The book discusses further effects, including unrealistic ideas about female attractiveness, and the significant risk that children will encounter pornographic content accidentally, particularly on the internet.
