This Czech-language novel follows Beth as she drives her son to a match and realizes that her former best friend lives near the football ground. She has not seen Flora for twelve years, so why would she drive past and risk reviving painful memories? Yet she cannot help herself. She parks outside Flora’s house and watches from across the road as Flora and her children get out of the car. Except that something is terribly wrong. Flora looks the same, only older, as one would expect. The problem is the children. Twelve years earlier, Thomas and Emily Braid were five and three years old. Today they look exactly as they did then. They are unmistakably the same children, but they have not changed at all. It seems they have not grown even an inch or aged by a single day.
