Descripción

Anthony Vidler examines how the deformation of psychological space caused by agoraphobia and claustrophobia at the end of the nineteenth century soon began to appear in architecture, urban planning and film. Neuroses and phobias thus became one of the most significant sources of twentieth-century artistic creation. The English architectural historian and theorist describes the development of psychological ideas about space from Pascal and Freud to theorists of spatial alienation such as Georg Simmel, Siegfried Kracauer and Walter Benjamin. Using examples from contemporary artists, he also shows how digital technologies enable the architectural representation of distorted space. This Czech-language book explores art, architecture and anxiety in modern culture.
