This Czech-language scholarly collection presents twenty-six essays by Miroslav Hroch, published between 1957 and 2021 in collections and specialist periodicals. Its structure reflects the breadth of his work, moving from economic and social history, including the crisis of feudalism in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, to cultural history, particularly the history of European national movements in the nineteenth century, and from archival research to comparative and interdisciplinary analysis of historical change. The selected texts also include more broadly focused essays intended for a wider readership, addressing subjects such as nationalism and patriotism, as well as the historical distinctiveness of Europe, memory, and historical consciousness.
