Descripción

Many countries do not regard the West’s anti-Russian stance after the invasion of Ukraine as self-evident: only a minority have actually adopted and maintained sanctions or restricted diplomatic relations. This “rest of the world”—which in fact comprises most of the global population, including countries of more than a billion people such as China and India—usually pursues its own interests or directly supports the Russian narrative, whether shaped by colonial, postcolonial or Cold War experience, or simply by anti-Western sentiment. Alternatively, is this a purely pragmatic approach based on economic ties? Do local political culture, the nature of the political system or the personal power of local elites play a role? How does ideology correspond to practical foreign-policy actions, and where should we look for the reasons behind possible discrepancies between these two levels? This collective monograph examines the causes of this situation, focusing primarily on countries with neutral, pragmatic or openly pro-Russian positions. The contents are in Czech.
