These essays by Theodor Adorno were written mainly in the 1950s and establish new principles for literary criticism and interpretation. The collection includes studies of authors such as Eichendorff, Beckett, Proust and Valéry, reflecting on the intellectual past, as well as broader texts examining the connections between the aesthetic and the social. Together, they develop a number of Adorno’s key philosophical convictions. Because of the importance he places on the essay form, the collection cannot be regarded merely as a supplement to his larger works. Instead, it represents one of his most successful attempts to bridge the gap between criticism and constructive philosophy. The contents are in Czech.
