Descripción

This Czech-language sociological study, first published in 1990, examines the nature of the age in which we live and its consequences for everyday life, politics and public discourse. Rather than focusing on academic questions about the relationship between modernity and postmodernity, Anthony Giddens analyzes, at a high theoretical level yet in an accessible way, such real problems as certainty and danger, trust and risk, the changing roles of space and time, shifts in the institutional structure of late-modern society, globalization and its consequences. He presents original views and introduces themes including trust in abstract systems, reflexivity, and the relationship between trust and ontological security. Anthony Giddens (1938) was for many decades one of Britain’s best-known sociologists and headed the London School of Economics and Political Science from 1997 to 2003. The book was the first of his works to appear in Czech translation, followed by Czech editions of Sociology, Runaway World, The Third Way, The Third Way and Its Critics, and The Transformation of Intimacy.
