Descripción
Mařatko’s Gastroenterology is a two-volume, comprehensive textbook of gastroenterology and hepatology that encyclopaedically covers the entire field. It follows the unique Mařatko’s Practical Gastroenterology, published in 1964, while reflecting the dramatic changes in the discipline since then, including a clearer understanding of disease mechanisms at cellular, genetic and molecular levels, improved knowledge of the pathophysiology of gastrointestinal and liver diseases, numerous new diagnostic tests and procedures, the combination of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, and the pharmacological development of medicines for conditions that previously could not be treated with drugs. New chapters discuss the intestinal microbiome, probiotics, faecal microbiota transplantation, immunology and recent findings in molecular genetics in gastroenterology. Some chapters extend significantly into other fields and address diseases that present major challenges for diagnosis and treatment in clinical practice. The monograph is clearly arranged and features detailed tables and high-quality illustrations. The accompanying electronic version contains the complete text with interactive features and search functions, tools for notes, highlighting and excerpts, videos presenting diagnostic methods and surgical procedures, test questions for checking knowledge of each chapter, and expanded reference lists. The contents are in Czech.
