Saturnin was first published in 1942. It has since appeared in more than twenty Czech-language editions, and its author is considered one of the national classics of Czech humorous literature. The novel has been successfully adapted for film and television and continues to appear as a stage play. In 2009, readers voted it the most popular book in Czech Television's Book of My Heart poll, and in 2018 it won the prestigious Magnesia Litera award in the Book of the Century category. This edition features original colour illustrations by Adolf Born and is also available in translations by renowned foreign scholars of Czech studies into English, Spanish, Italian, German, French, Russian and Polish. This edition is translated into Ukrainian by Iryna Zabiiaka, and its contents are in Ukrainian.
