Descripción
This textbook presents the complex subject of nutrition in geriatric and gerontological care in a clear and well-organized form. As older people make up more than half of the patient population in clinical care and their numbers continue to grow worldwide, nutrition-related disorders typical of old age are becoming increasingly prevalent. The general section introduces geriatrics as a medical field, demographic ageing, morbidity, physiological changes in old age, geriatric syndromes, functional geriatric assessment and multidisciplinary care. The special section focuses on examining and assessing nutritional status, diagnosing nutritional disorders and specific diseases that can directly or indirectly affect the nutritional status of older people. Each chapter contains key words, learning objectives and review questions to consolidate and revise the material. The textbook is intended primarily for students and graduates of nutritional therapy interested in geriatric and therapeutic care, and serves as basic literature for students of nutritional therapy in a specialist programme. The contents are in Czech.
