Descripción
This Czech-language monograph examines the renewed rise of dystopian themes in contemporary Czech literature and addresses terminology that has not yet been fully established. Its theoretical chapters raise and answer fundamental questions of genre theory: Is dystopia an independent genre? Can its typologies and genre variants be defined? Are dystopia and anti-utopia synonymous terms? The book also reviews the use of the term in Czech literary scholarship and offers an overview of dystopian writing from around the world and from the Czech literary tradition. Through critical analyses and interpretations of selected Czech novels and novellas published after 2010, it seeks to construct the most comprehensive possible picture of the forms taken by the dystopian genre in the latest Czech literature, including its transformations. It identifies the specific features of individual dystopian systems and briefly relates the findings to the contemporary global context.
