For Czech readers, this atlas offers the first opportunity to explore the previously unseen world of ichnology, a scientific discipline with its own terminology, logic and aesthetic principles. Ichnology examines a much broader range of objects than fossilised footprints or trackways, including burrows, which are familiar as homes for mammals on land but are far more numerous and varied as dwellings made by invertebrates within the seabed. The book also presents a wide variety of feeding traces, including grazing marks on the surface of the seabed, traces left by feeding deep within it, and complex structures used for cultivating and harvesting food. Renowned prehistoric-world illustrator Jiří Svoboda created ten surprising views of ichnology in close cooperation with the author. The atlas can also serve as a guide, since most of the selected fossil-trace sites still exist and the book provides detailed information on access to them. The contents are in Czech.
