What was the world like a hundred years ago? This engaging selection of important and interesting historical documents from the early years of the First Republic, 1918–1925, introduces it to contemporary readers. Unlike other anthologies, which focus mainly on “significant documents” from political or legal history, this collection takes a broader approach, ranging from politics to culture and social life, and from serious and official texts to light-hearted satires and parodies, official records, fiction, and excerpts from poetry and prose. It includes both familiar texts and many that have been forgotten or have not been reprinted since their creation. The book is suitable for readers interested in the First Republic and for use in school teaching.
