Descripción
Set in fictional Maycomb, Alabama, during the troubled 1930s, this novel is told through the eyes of Scout, a young girl whose father, Atticus, defends a Black man accused of raping a young white woman. The case shocks and divides the town, where race and class shape people’s attitudes. Atticus’s bravery, fairness and refusal to compromise make him the moral centre of the story. Although the evidence makes the man’s innocence clear, an angry jury convicts him, and he later loses his life while trying to escape.
