Rosalind, one of Shakespeare’s most appealing and strong female protagonists, is at the centre of this comedy about concealed identity, love, exile and artifice. Banished from court by her uncle, she flees to the forest with her cousin Celia and her jester, joining her already exiled father while disguised as a boy. In the guise of a young man, Rosalind instructs her would-be lover Orlando in the ways of love, allowing Shakespeare to explore the relationship between city and country as well as the sexual politics of his time.
