Description
Synopsis
When Dalimil and Eliška welcome their daughter Růženka, the joy is immense as she is no ordinary child but the princess of the Rose Kingdom, where Eliška is the queen and Dalimil the just ruler. The only one not rejoicing is Eliška's elder sister Melánie, consumed with envy and anger in her decrepit tower. She was passed over for the crown when Dalimil chose Eliška over her. Filled with malice, Melánie curses Růženka to prick her finger on her seventeenth birthday, fall into an eternal sleep, and plunge the kingdom into slumber. To protect Růženka, Dalimil removes all sharp objects and decides to marry her off to break the curse. He chooses Prince Jiří of the Midnight Kingdom, but Růženka falls for Jiří’s younger brother, Jaroslav. Despite initially giving way to his arrogant and foolish brother, Jaroslav decides to fight for his love. A twist of fate seems to ruin Jaroslav’s chance to win Růženka's kiss, but she soon sees through Jiří's so-called heroics and refuses to marry him. As her cursed birthday arrives and the prophecy is fulfilled, only one person can break the spell. Prince Jaroslav defies his parents’ orders and embarks on a perilous journey to the enchanted kingdom to save Růženka.
