Synopsis
In The Joke, a 1968 film directed by Jaromil Jireš and based on Milan Kundera's novel, protagonist Ludvík Jahn seeks revenge against Pavel Zemánek, the man who ruined his life years earlier by getting him expelled from school. Ludvík's plan to seduce Zemánek's wife backfires when he discovers that Zemánek has moved on with a younger woman, leaving Ludvík to confront the futility and pettiness of his long-sought revenge.
