Synopsis
This is the true story of the first Czech female writer, told in four television episodes. Seventeen-year-old Bára is rebellious, eager, and independent. She'd rather read than bake, and she attracts the attention of men. Her parents can no longer handle her, so they search for a groom who would marry her without a dowry. The best match is a retired civil servant, Josef Němec, fifteen years her senior. The young and untamed Bára captivates him. Josef pays no heed to his friend's warnings, and Bára, against her parents' wishes, has no choice but to marry. Two contrasting personalities embark on a shared life. The year is 1837...
