She studied painting, the Faculty of Philology at the Latvian State University (1979–1981), and philosophy and 20th-century literature at New York's New School College (2000). She worked as a restorer in Crimea, a teacher in Riga, a translator from Russian and English, an organizer of the Riga International Film Festival Arsenal, a consultant for the Literary Express Europe 2000 project, a host of the literary program of Latvian television Black on White, and the chairwoman of the National Council for Culture. As an author, she participated in the project European Constitution in Verses (2008), and currently works at the Apostrofs publishing house and in media consulting. She has been publishing poetry since 1988 and has released three poetry collections: Here is the Sky, Here is the Dial, 1997, Blow, Scorpion!, 2001, and Notebook of Antennas, 2006. She also published a collection of travel essays I Didn't Have to Rush, 2008. She translates poetry from Russian and English. She is a laureate of the Days of Poetry Award (1998 and 2006) and the Annual Literature Award (2001).
