Historian Jan Slavík (1885-1978) was one of the most prominent figures in Czech historiography during the interwar period. From a young age, he focused on the issues of Slavic, particularly Russian history, and in 1925 he became the director of the Russian Historical Foreign Archive at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His studies, based on a comparison of the Russian Revolution with the course and results of previous revolutions, became a lasting enrichment of historical science. Slavík's stimulating approach was particularly evident in his most successful books, Lenin (1934) and Lenin's Government (1935). Slavík also devoted extensive journalistic activity to the Russian Revolution. At the same time, as the most serious opponent of his teacher Josef Pekař and a critic of the positivist factuality of Goll's school from the perspective of the sociological interpretation of history, as presented by Max Weber and in our country by T.
