One day, Geppetto carves a little puppet from a log, and a miracle occurs: the puppet comes alive, moves and speaks. Geppetto names him Pinocchio, makes him clothes from paper and sends him to school so that he can learn about the world. He even sells his jacket to buy Pinocchio a reading primer. But the naughty puppet skips school and trades the book for a ticket to a puppet theatre. The theatre manager takes pity on him and gives Pinocchio five gold coins for Geppetto. Two wandering con artists, a fox and a cat, try to steal his treasure, but with the help of kind animals and a good fairy, Pinocchio is eventually reunited with Geppetto.
