Three decades after the 12-CD Ema Destinn collection, Supraphon presents this similarly rare set devoted to Karel Burian (1870–1924), a leading tenor at the Metropolitan Opera and a regular guest in London, Paris, Zurich, Munich, Bayreuth, Dresden, Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Budapest and elsewhere. Gustav Mahler and Arturo Toscanini invited him to perform in their new Metropolitan Opera productions. When Enrico Caruso was asked why he did not also sing in German operas, he replied, “I can sing only some things; Burian can sing everything.” Burian was renowned above all as an exemplary Wagnerian singer in roles including Tristan, Parsifal, Siegfried and Stolzing, as well as for Italian, French and Russian repertoire. He sang Jeník and Dalibor in both Czech and German. Seventy-two recordings of operatic arias and songs from the early gramophone era have survived. This collection was assembled through the generous cooperation of collectors and institutions around the world, who provided the original shellac discs, offering a unique opportunity to hear all the recordings made by one of the greatest opera singers of his time. The release also includes Portrait, an 11-CD collection of recordings by Ivan Moravec, one of the most highly regarded Czech pianists of the 20th century, recorded between 1962 and 2000 for Supraphon and American recording companies. A DVD presents the artist in a documentary and previously unreleased recordings from the Czech Television archive. The collection contains more than 17 hours of recordings in high sound quality.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Supraphon","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":54025594274139,"sku":"099925428723","price":48.9,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/1787\/2513\/files\/0511640.jpg?v=1789065870","url":"https:\/\/czechmovie.com\/products\/099925428723","provider":"czechmovie","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
