His lyrics became an inseparable part of the golden sixties, and many remain familiar to later generations, including Oh, Baby, Baby, Magdalena and Don, diri, don. Schneider was involved in the creation or transformation of several small theatres in the early 1960s, including Semafor, Alfa in Plzeň, Divadlo Na zábradlí and Rokoko. He formed writing partnerships with Jaroslav Jakoubek and later Boban Ondráček, with whom he wrote and brought the Czech musical Gentlemen to life. Songs with Schneider’s lyrics received numerous awards, including Golden and Silver Lyres in Bratislava and the Intervision Silver Key. After emigrating to Germany in late summer 1969, he worked as an editor for Radio Free Europe, keeping his voice heard. The first disc focuses on well-known songs and concludes with protest songs such as Requiem, Judgment, Shoot and I Must Keep Singing. The second presents selections from the musicals Gentlemen, The Man of La Mancha and West Side Story, along with several previously unreleased songs. The third introduces Schneider as the author of so-called hooligan verses and includes a unique interview with Karel Kryl about the creation of many verses and song lyrics, followed by recordings, some appearing on an audio release for the first time, performed by M. Kubišová, W. Matuška and V. Neckář. The recordings come from the archives of Supraphon, Czech Radio in Prague and Plzeň, and the private archive of Divadlo Alfa in Plzeň.
