The first Czech translation is accompanied by an extensive introductory study placing the work in the context of Rousseau’s life and writings, the historical and political development of Europe, and the Corsicans’ struggle for independence. It demonstrates the important place of this text among Rousseau’s political works, as it develops ideas found in other writings, including The Social Contract, in an original way.
