Synopsis
HBO Europe's 13-episode series, directed by Jan Hřebejk and written by Iva Klestilová and Tereza Dusová, delves into the complex emotional world of its characters, portrayed by popular Czech actors. 'Až po uši' (Up to the Ears) begins where most similar genre series end, pulling viewers not just to the thresholds of households and bedrooms, but deeper into the colorful inner worlds of its protagonists. Intertwining homosexual and heterosexual relationships, the series humorously and insightfully explores the fears and traumas its characters flee from: an alcoholic mother, an unintended pregnancy, a lost father, an unfaithful husband, a sister's suicide, and unrequited love. As these pains surface amidst romantic escapades, the characters seek refuge in sexual adventures, alcohol, or work, inevitably facing the consequences of their instant crisis solutions.
